Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using Meal Optimizer ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms form a binding agreement between you and Meal Optimizer ("we", "us", or "our").

2. Description of service

Meal Optimizer is an AI-powered weekly meal planning service that generates personalized dinner plans for households based on dietary preferences, budget, and family profiles. Features include meal plan generation, ingredient shopping lists, meal swaps, and dietary adaptation.

The Service is currently in beta. Features may change, and we may experience downtime or data loss during this period. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

3. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at privacy@meal-optimizer.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By registering, you represent that you meet this requirement.

4. Subscriptions and billing

Meal Optimizer offers a free trial period followed by a paid subscription. Subscription pricing and trial length are displayed at the time of sign-up.

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.
  • You may cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access until then.
  • We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law.
  • We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with at least 30 days' advance notice to active subscribers.

Payment is processed by Stripe. By providing payment information, you agree to Stripe's terms of service.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Scrape, copy, or redistribute meal content, plans, or AI-generated output for commercial purposes.
  • Submit false, misleading, or harmful content through any part of the Service.
  • Use the Service in a way that could damage, disable, or impair it.

6. AI-generated content

Meal plans, suggestions, and adaptations are generated by AI (powered by Anthropic's Claude). AI output is provided for informational and convenience purposes only. We do not guarantee the accuracy, nutritional completeness, or suitability of AI-generated meal plans for any specific dietary or medical need.

If you or a household member has a serious medical condition, food allergy, or clinical dietary requirement, consult a qualified healthcare professional before relying on AI-generated meal plans.

7. Meal content

The meal recipes, instructions, and nutritional estimates in our catalog are original content created by Meal Optimizer. They are provided for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not reproduce or distribute them without our written permission.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its design, code, meal catalog, and branding, is owned by Meal Optimizer and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any ownership rights in the Service.

You retain ownership of any content you submit (such as custom preferences or feedback). By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use it to operate and improve the Service.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MEAL OPTIMIZER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 9, 10, and 12) will do so.

You may delete your account at any time from the Settings page.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction in the United States. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice in the Service. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
